Galka'yo, Somalia: Two Dead, One Injured in Second Somali Roadside Accident in 24 Hours

At least two people were killed and one other was severely hurt in a car accident on Sunday that occurred just outside of Galka’yo town in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region.

The accident came after the car turned off the street and struck a tree beside the road. Locals quickly came upon the scene to rescue and assist the victims.

The wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals in the town of Garowe, Puntland’s capital. Both fatalities were women.

A witness told Daljir, a local radio station in Galka’yo that the car was headed to Garowe when the accident occurred. It is the second deadly accident to occur in 24 hours in the region. A previous car accident in Bur Saleh outside Galka’yo left at least three dead. Somalia has not had any central legislation to aid in repair and maintenance of the streets and other social services since 1991.
