Hundreds Arrested in Nairobi’s Somali Suburb

Police in Kenya have arrested several people in the Nairobi’s Somali estate of Eastleigh suburb.
The police said the arrests were normal operations intended to flash out illegal immigrants.
The arrests came at a time when an attack on a police vehicle on Friday in the same killed one policeman. The arrests are also possible response to the attack that the Kenyan police said they will ask the FBI to help them in investigating it.

Police picked several people from the streets, restaurants, hotels and even from their homes and were then forced on to police trucks. Most of them are expected to appear in court later.

Somalia’s ambsador in Nairobi, Mohamed ALi Americo said that Kenyan authorities have assured his office that the arrest are not connected to the attack on police vehicle last week.
He said he will make personal efforts to ask the government to release those with valid documents.

Some of those who have been arrested include Somalis of Kenyan origin. It is not known the total number of people who were arrested.
