As Mogadishu battles are continuing to rage day after day, at least 85 al-Shabaab extremists were killed in the latest confrontations that took place in Mogadishu’s northern neighborhoods where the militants attacked Somali government forces backed by African Union peacekeepers known as(AMISOM), an Al shabaab official said on Sunday.

Sheikh Ali Mohamoud Rage, the spokesman of al-Qaeda inspired group al-Shabaab said that the group sent 280 fighters to wage new waves of attacks on AMISOM forces and government soldiers’ bases in capital, admitting that at least 85 militants were killed in the last 24 hours Mogadishu confrontations.
Addressing to scores of graduated students in a school in al-Shabaab controlled district in Mogadishu, Rage spelled out some 65 fighters of al-Shabaab were wounded while 130 returned safely.
He called the graduated young students to take part in what he described as Mogadishu’s ongoing holly war to drive Somali forces and the strong AMISOM forces.
Separately, an official, who had last week defected from al-Shabaab, has told a local Radio station some 700 al-Shabaab extremists were killed in Ramadan battles in Mogadishu that started shortly after the group declared a huge offensive with aim of deposing Somalia’s UN backed fragile government and AMISOM forces to be driven out from the seaside capital.
“It was an irretrievable financial and military blow on al-Shabaab according Ramadan combats that claimed more innocent civilians who made no mistake” the defected official explained.
He indicated the Ramadan fighting created big wrangle within al-Shabaab’s high ranking officials. He spelled out that dispute brought Sheikh Mokhtar Rabow abu Mansur, al-Shabaab’s second man in command to pull out his clan fighters from Mogadishu to Bay and Bakol regions where he is originally from.
In the last two weeks, nearly twenty Al shabaab fighters surrendered to Somali government. All young defected fighters said they deserted the terrorist group after they failed to tolerate so longer.
In August, Al Shabaab, which controls much territory in southern and central Somalia, declared a large-scale offensive to eliminate what it called invading African Christians and African Christians.
