Somali forces capture Dhobley district

Somali national army backed by Raskamboni movement have captured Dhobley district of lower Jubba region completely after heavy fighting they got with Al-shabab forces Sunday morning, reports said.


Huge fighting between Shabab forces and Somali national army allied by Raskamboni occurred inside the Dhobley district, close to the Kenyan border and exchanged shells which finally the city fell into hands of Somali transitional federal government, officials confirmed to the press mid today.

At least 15 people were killed and 30 others wounded in today’s face to face fighting between these groups and 14 of those injuries were taken into Kenyan hospital from T.F.G side as reports said, though there is no good information found from Shabab side.

The shells that warring sides were exchanging damaged the building of the city as though no casualties were reported of the civilians.

“We are chasing the remnants of Shabab and we are going to remove Al-shabab from whole the region”, Ahmed Mahamud Adi, one of the officials who were leading Somali forces.

The violence between these groups in this region started early last month and was continuing sporadically and heavily, but it was bitter today than previous days and Shabab lost very strategic and important city although the possibility that Shabab could regroup again and fight against Somali transitional federal government can’t be ignored.

Al-shabab officials have not talked today’s clash in Dhobley district which they were controlling about half a year and they lost it today.

Kismayo is the largest stronghold of Shabab where foreign fighters are believed to staying.
