Car bomb blast in Somalia capital wounds 1

A police officer in Somalia's capital says a car bomb explosion has wounded one person.

Ahmed Daud said the Wednesday blast occurred on a street frequently used by Somali officials.

Daud said one soldier was wounded by the explosion.

Militants with the group al-Shabab have increased insurgent attacks in recent days.

Al-Shabab has largely been pushed out of the capital by African Union forces but continues to carry out suicide and car bomb attacks. Mortars landed in Mogadishu on two consecutive days earlier this week.
