A Friday morning crash in Fayette County left four people dead and two in serious condition, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office in the northeast Iowa county learned of a two-vehicle crash just northeast of Clermont about 8:45 a.m., according to a news release.
Deputies found a 2008 Chevrolet truck driven by Tony Alan Schlee, 57, of Elgin and a 2004 Toyota van driven by Shariff Hussein Warsame, 28, of Postville.
Warsame’s van had been going west and lost control, hitting Schlee’s vehicle, which was pulling a round bale trailer, officials said. Warsame and his three passengers — Miski Yahye Mohamed, 34, Khadijo Mohamed, 53, and Maryan Kulane, 25 — died from their injuries.
Schlee and his passenger, Pamela Schlee, 58, were taken to a hospital. They suffered serious injuries, but their conditions were not known Friday.
Officials could not be reached to answer whether road conditions contributed to the crash.
